Step 5 requires the implementation of educational projects to promote knowledge on climate protection and the support for projects that lead to the build-up of new or lost biomass. By participating in ZNU goes Zero, the climate protection efforts of the ZNU partners does not end merely with the compensation of unavoidable CO2 emissions. Complementing projects are supported that reduce the level of CO2 emissions in the atmosphere in the long term.
The initiative ZNU goes Zero goes beyond conventional market approaches, as companies are not only expected to avoid, reduce, and compensate for their own climate impacts (in the sense of CO2 emissions), but also to bind the already globally accumulated CO2 in the atmosphere through additional, meaningful tree and soil projects. Furthermore, it is required to support the education for children, youth, and adults with a respect to climate change. Raising awareness among people today is key to ensure sustainable decision making in the future, also in the companies of tomorrow. That is the reason why ZNU goes Zero draws on the ZNU motto "Education, Soil and/or Trees" for Steps 4 and 5.
